While sitting at my desk this morning I looked out my window and took a moment to appreciate the beauties of nature and all that God has given to me. At first, feeling chilled by our drop in temperature, I felt disappointed that Fall was on its way out and I glumly acknowledged that winter is close by.
However, I quickly checked my complaint of the 55 degree weather when I noticed the oranges hanging on the limbs of our orange trees and counted my blessings. There are not many places that offer a winter with so few days of cold temperatures that you can still have oranges growing in your yard in early December.
Fall slips quickly between our long summers and short winters here
at Canopy Cove. North Florida offers so much to those of us who have chosen to make it our home, or, for those who are here only temporarily.
The majestic Oaks that stand stoically draped with moss provide a shelter from the summer sun. A short drive to the coast offers beautiful panoramic water front views with a distinct fresh salty aroma as a gentle breeze brushes past.
The Fall brings a short but appreciated time when the air is comfortable and our pine trees drop their needles making a crunchy brown carpeted path. Golden leaves remind of us the approaching cooler days ahead. The occasional cool winter days bring a reminder that there is a needed time for things to be dormant and revive.
It also gives an opportunity to wear a coat or sweater without having to run the air conditioner to stay comfortable!
We are always hopeful that our cool days correspond with Christmas so that we can dream of horse drawn carriages making their way through snow banks without sweltering. There is not much like having Christmas with 80 degree weather. But we won’t complain!
Spring is so special here in Tallahassee and at Canopy Cove. Dogwoods offer the symbolic blooms that show the cross and remind of us of the hope that is given to all.
Finding their white flowers encircled in colorful Azalea blooms is a beauty that is abundant. Watching the pastures return to a green carpeted landscape and seeing the horses grazing contentedly are special to our staff and our clients.
Taking a serenity walk through the mare’s pasture brings a sense of peace to those who are struggling with the turmoil of Anorexia, Bulimia, and other eating disorders.
Wonderful memories and visions of freedom are among the benefits of treatment that our staff hope for each participant who works with us. Embracing the challenges that face each person who recovers from Anorexia, Bulimia, or Binge Eating Disorders is a struggle whether it is approached during Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall.
